Wes Roberts Photography

There’s something special about weddings at Callaway Gardens. The setting itself seems to slow everything down — the light through the trees, the quiet gardens, the peaceful atmosphere. It’s a place that naturally fits celebrations that are personal, meaningful, and beautifully simple.

Many of the couples I work with here aren’t looking for anything extravagant. They’re planning something smaller, more relaxed — often a second marriage or a gathering with just close family. Callaway Gardens is perfect for that kind of day. Your wedding day shouldn’t feel like a production. My role is simply to help things feel comfortable and natural while documenting what’s already there. Whether you’re exchanging vows inside the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel, surrounded by stained glass and soft light, or outdoors near Robin Lake or the gardens, the environment does so much of the work. My approach is relaxed and gently guided so you never feel rushed, awkward, or over-posed.

Most couples tell me the same thing afterward — that the photography felt easy and unobtrusive, and that they were able to truly enjoy the day.

Smaller weddings have a different rhythm. There’s more space to breathe, more time to be present, more room for genuine moments. That’s often what couples remember most. These celebrations aren’t about spectacle — they’re about connection, family, and marking an important chapter in your story. My goal is to create photographs that reflect that feeling honestly and timelessly.

Images that will feel just as meaningful years from now as they do today.

Helpful Notes for Your Callaway Gardens Wedding

Callaway Gardens is one of those rare places where the setting does so much of the work for you. The property is naturally beautiful, which means your day can feel relaxed and elegant without needing to overcomplicate things. Here are a few things I often share with couples planning smaller celebrations here.

Choose a Location That Matches the Feel of Your Day

Callaway offers a variety of beautiful spaces, each with a slightly different atmosphere. The Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel feels quiet, intimate, and timeless — perfect for couples who want a peaceful, traditional setting surrounded by nature. Outdoor garden locations provide soft color, open light, and a very natural feel that works beautifully for relaxed ceremonies. Robin Lake offers a more open, airy backdrop with gentle water reflections and especially beautiful light later in the day. There’s no “right” choice — only what feels most like you.

Let the Natural Scenery Be Your Décor

One of the nicest things about Callaway Gardens is that you don’t need heavy decoration. The gardens, trees, and landscapes already provide texture and elegance. Simple floral elements and clean design choices almost always photograph beautifully here. Minimalism tends to work in your favor.

Consider the Light When Planning Your Timeline

The light at Callaway is soft and flattering throughout much of the day, but late afternoon and early evening often produce the most beautiful tones, especially near the Chapel, Robin Lake and the open grass field on your entry to the Lodge and Spa. If your schedule allows, leaving space for portraits during softer light can make a noticeable difference in the final images.

Embrace the Pace of a Smaller Wedding

Intimate weddings naturally allow more breathing room. Without the pressure of a large event, couples often find the day feels calmer and more enjoyable. This relaxed pace almost always translates into more genuine expressions and more meaningful photographs.

Focus on What Matters Most

Smaller celebrations create space for the things couples often value most — connection, presence, and shared moments with close family. Rather than thinking in terms of elaborate production, think about how you want the day to feel.

Trust the Setting

Callaway Gardens has a way of creating a peaceful atmosphere all on its own. The environment rarely feels rushed or chaotic, which is part of what makes weddings here so memorable. When couples lean into that calm energy, everything tends to unfold very naturally.

A Relaxed Photography Experience Works Best Here

The scenery at Callaway doesn’t need forced posing or dramatic setups. A comfortable, guided, and natural approach typically complements the surroundings far better. The goal is to keep things easy, enjoyable, and reflective of the day you’re actually having.
