Our Top 5 Bridal Images...

As wedding photographers, we get to see lots of beautiful brides and images that we capture. It’s like Christmas morning for us when we load the memory card onto the computer and view what we have captured during a session. You might be thinking that the cool locations and amazing dresses make the image but really it is the bride, her personality, and the time we get to spend with her to create stunning images. We love doing bridal sessions! It gives us time to get that perfect shot of our brides in their dress and the bride is relaxed and has fun…which is sometimes hard to do on the wedding day. Typically, our bridal sessions last about 2 hours. We seek out several locations that the bride wants to use or sometimes we have locations in mind that we think would make for great images. Not only are the brides more relaxed during their bridal session, but it gives us time to get the know the bride and allows her to get comfortable in front of the camera. Not everyone loves the spotlight, so it is much easier to get camera comfortable during a bridal session than on your wedding day when tons of people may be watching you take pictures. We want to get our brides the best images we can in their wedding dress…after all, this will be the most important dress she will put on in her lifetime! We chose several of our favorite bridal images from recent weddings that we feel display the brides uniqueness, beauty, and personality…all qualities that we aim to showcase during our sessions. Lauren was one of our Senior Models from the class of 2014. We have always loved photographing her and she is a great sport. She pretty much let's us experiment with new ideas and she just goes along with it! Recently she began working at Robin's Nest Boutique in Phenix City, Alabama. We wanted to help the boutique out by providing them with some great images of their new, incoming clothing line. We love teaming up with other local businesses to help promote the cool things they offer. With that being said, we scooped up Lauren one afternoon, she brought some great clothes from the boutique and we went to work getting some great images for Robin's Nest to share. It’s Thursday, January 29, 2015. Tomorrow is my last day as a special education teacher…or until God says it’s time to go back to teaching. My heart is torn into a thousand pieces at the moment. Special education has been my life for almost 10 years. I graduated from college and went straight into the classroom, loving on children with disabilities…ranging from very mild learning disabilities to children with severe disabilities. I have always known special education was where God wanted me when he put it on my heart to major in this field as an undergraduate student. I have worked my way from an undergraduate degree to an Ed.S. in this field. I am fascinated by all the disabilities and have been on a constant hunt to find out how to reach a child that struggles academically or socially or adaptively…the list goes on. When you become a teacher, the students you work with become a part of you, like your own children. You cry with them, laugh with them, pray for them, and walk some hard roads with them. In the last 10 years I have grown just as much as some of my students have. And the truth is…they have taught me more about life than I could have ever taught them. They have taught me to love unconditionally, that life’s too short to pass judgment, to see the rainbow in the storm, and to wake up each morning grateful for who I am and what I have. If you have never spent time around a child with special needs, I encourage you to do so…it will rock your world. They are amazing people who have a love for life like no one else.

I am not sure how tomorrow will go. I am sure I will cry and be excited all at the same time…you know that bittersweet feeling. I have cried many tears knowing that I am leaving a great school and amazing students behind. My comfort…knowing that God has called me to stay home, be a full time mom and support my husband with his business. Honestly, a hard part is giving up the pay check; that comfort and security of knowing that every two weeks that money would be in the bank. (I am a worrier. I admit it, but my worry does nothing but allow satan a stronghold in my life and in my family’s life. Worry does not honor God, but only shows him that I do not fully trust Him.) My contribution to my family was my job, but since about August of this school year, God began to work on my heart. He began to show me that my contribution needed to be at home, full time. He has reminded me over and over again this past month that a paycheck is such a short term investment. My children are a life time investment. Will it be easy financially for our family? God never promises easy but He does promise that he will meet our needs! I am learning to walk by faith knowing that my Savior will take care of us and that he will honor our efforts. I know that He will grow our business, if we just trust Him to do so. Trials are going to come, but what we do with those trials is what’s important. Tony Evans says “Trials are unavoidable but that doesn’t mean they have to be unprofitable.” When we are faced with hard times, what are we going to do…run, live defeated, get mad at God? Instead…let Him use that time as a way to refine you; teaching you to depend on Him! This is truly the biggest step of faith our family has taken. Wes and I have been married close to 10 years…we took a big leap when Wes left his full time job to pursue photography full time, but now God is calling us out again, into deeper waters. We are listening to him and obeying. Has he called you out into deeper waters but you are holding back? Think of what you could be missing out on. Think of all the things He has waiting for you. It’s not going to be easy but it will be worth it!

Cottage Hill Magazine {Styled Shoot}

I love shooting styled shoots! For me its the culmination of a vision that a team worked so hard to pull off. You can try things you wouldn't normally do during, maybe a wedding per se, but a styled shoot you can do anything...it just has to look good! We recently got to work with Cottage Hill Magazine and LeRae Events + Design and we got to team up with "Team Awesome" again...LeRae Events + Design, Kamee Kwak, Whitlee Mullis and Us.

For this shoot the main idea was centered around high school sweethearts. SO, the search was on for real highschool sweethearts that were married. Within days LeRae had found our couple Peyton and Andy. Obviously, they had known each other in highschool and dated throughout college and their story was such a heartwarming story of love. We wanted a setting that would resemble a school but not just any school, a super awesome looking school. All roads pointed to Huntington College in Montgomery AL so that was were we headed. After we got the models and location, the Team began working their magic. Kamee started by making Peyton and Andy look even more amazing by styling (hair and outfits) them to fit what we work looking for. Peyton wore a Lusan Mandongus gown provided by Ivory & White Bridal Boutique in Birmingham and Andy wore a handsome tux from Jim Massey. While they were getting ready, both Rae and Leah of LeRae went to work on styling the flowers and setting up the tablescapes. To add the final touches and make everything come together, Whitlee Mullis styled the paper suites which are super eye catching.

Continuing on with the “Life to Space” AI series here are a few of the ordinary moments in the extraordinary. You still have to have coffee. I’m loving the ability to create the imaginable with a “pen to paper” (used very loosely) technology. Ideas just fly into my head and as quickly I’m trying to see what it might look like. Im finding that I’m having to use my photography and art director skills the same for the concept, look and emotional feel to achieve the look I want. I don’t really know what to do with this yet, meaning if it stays on this account or not, but I wanted to share anyway. Watching yesterday’s rocket launch made me think about the possibility of what it’s like to live in space. While it would be extraordinary years down the road to have a completely different lifestyle. Yet in the extraordinary there are the ordinary moments. I wanted to play around with a new technology to see what these extraordinary and ordinary moments might look like together. So, here is a look at life in space brought to us by AI. The emotions of what it’s like to prepare to leave to the actual departure. Could you imagine? #aiart #midjourney #space #spaceexploration #thefuture #lifeinspace To be upfront, everything that you see here was created by artificial intelligence and the platform Midjourney. Most everything you see was typed in as a description to the way that I wanted it. This has to be one of the most amazing and powerful technologies in the art world right now and will possibly change the landscape of art as we know it. I believe the future as a photographer/artist will be finding a way to unite traditional art with this new technology. I don’t believe fighting against it will do any good but learning how to embrace it and evolve will unlock the creativity of our minds in a way that we could never imagine.

Just some of the seniors I’ve been able to photograph over the years. These images tell their story and who they are and were. It’s the power of our stories that allow us to relate and connect. I am so thankful that I’ve been blessed with providing images like these to seniors and parents to cherish and look back on, remembering their senior year. 2024, let’s tell your story!

Here is another fun product shot that is surprising once you see the behind the scene. Sometimes simplifying the shot is the best so that the product is the main focus. The fun part about this is that the checkered background isn’t a backsplash but is the inside cover of one of my son’s nascar books. So here is my behind the scenes on my setup for the Perfectly Posh lotion shot. Just as simple as a Pyrex dish, some blue printer paper and lifting the dish to move the water. I’ve always loved the challenge of trying to capture a wide range of subjects. I feel like if I can get the lighting concept down, add the creative touch, and keep the end use of the shot in mind, I’ll be able to photograph whatever my client's needs and be a more well-rounded photographer. Would you have guessed the setup would have looked like this? Wait till you see the next product shot I share and the BTS.

It’s always fun to play around and photograph different things. This came in one of my Meg’s (my wife) order boxes, so i decided to see what I could do with it. Just a fun beachy vibe. I love it when I’m blessed with opportunities to photograph people/families over the years. Tabitha and CW are one of those blessings. Since Tab was in high school I’ve been able to photograph her senior pictures. Then I was able to photograph her and CW’s engagement session and wedding, and now as they are expecting their firstborn. We were able to meet up for some beautiful shots around Callaway and Pine Mountain. I am so excited for them and this next stage of life! Give them a congratulations!
